What are the Love Gates in Human Design?

The four gates of love

Human Design is a complex system of self-knowledge that reveals so much about who you came here to be, including your potential strengths and qualities. Your activated gates are one place to look to discover your unique traits.

There are 64 gates total on a bodygraph chart but each person only has 26 activated (and some gates can be activated more than once). There are four “gates of love” or love gates in Human Design.

All four love gates are located on the G center, which governs love, direction, and identity. Because G center sounds, um, weird, I refer to this center as the identity center, as do many others. You can have the love gates activated whether your identity center is undefined or defined.

Some nuance before we get into it: Having a gate doesn’t mean its energy is accessible to you at all times. If you have a gate as part of a channel, the energy of the gate will be more consistent. More on this later…

The four love gates

Gate 15: love of humanity

An undefined identity center with gate 15. Look up your chart here for free.

Gate 15 is about loving and accepting the full spectrum of humanity, including a diversity of behaviors, without judgment. People with gate 15 have the potential to understand the diverse ways love exists in the world. If you have this gate, you may also love to explore extremes. For example, maybe you go vegan for six months and then switch to a carnivore diet. Or explore conscious celibacy and then experiment with polyamory.

Gate 10: self-love

A defined identity center with gate 10

Gate 10 is about loving and accepting yourself. This love of self isn’t about becoming something but a call to surrender to your authentic self, which is genuine self-love. You’re here to learn what makes you unique as well as to love all of you and become comfortable in your own skin. Honoring your individuality and path, despite what others think, will help you feel in integrity. When you “do you,” you’ll inspire others to love themselves.

Gate 25: universal love

An undefined identity center with gate 25

Gate 25 is the potential to love all of existence, without discrimination. This transcendent love is egalitarian rather than specific. For example, you may feel a similar expansive sense of love for the night sky as you do for another person. This is a mystical, spiritual love that also retains a childlike innocence. This innocence can help you through life’s challenges; you can embrace life and have deep compassion, despite intense circumstances.

Gate 46: love of the body

A defined identity center with gate 46

Gate 46 is about loving your body and, in turn, all bodies. Body acceptance and body love sometimes is a journey. And one that can come, for example, through illness or body image issues. If you struggle with loving your body, start treating it as your temple. Sensual dance or embodied movement practices can help you fall in love with your body. You may be surprised by what life brings when you start truly living in your body.

If you have any channels containing the love gates, these energies will be more potent. Here’s an example of a channel with gate 46:

Channel 29-46

The following channels have the love gates:

  • 34–10 (exploration)

  • 57–10 (perfected form)

  • 10–20 (awakening)

  • 5–15 (rhythm)

  • 51–25 (initiation)

  • 29–46 (discovery)

Gate 10, 15, 25, and 46 are not the only gates that speak to love in our design but they’re the traditional four. If you don’t have them, don’t fret. From a Human Design perspective, our auras are always interacting. Being around others gives us access to energies we don’t innately have. We’re not energetic silos.

Love is all around us.
