What is the Manifestor Strategy in Human Design?
“To inform” explained
Manifestors are the trailblazers of the 5 types in Human Design, here to forge new paths with their bold actions and innovative ideas.
You have “one job” as a Manifestor and that is to initiate. Your gift is bringing to life your big visions.
Manifestors are the only type in Human Design designed to initiate without needing anything outside of themselves to prod them into action. However, for Manifestors to manifest (or manifest with less resistance from others) they need to follow their strategy, which is called “to inform.”
You can think of informing as clearing the road ahead of any roadblocks so you can smoothly get your vision out into the world.
If you’re a Manifestor struggling to bring your ideas to life, informing will help.
Each of the 5 types in Human Design has a strategy. Your type’s strategy is a tool to help you get what you want. It’s a highly actionable piece of your design. It shows you how to use your energy in more efficient ways, create better opportunities, and enter more aligned relationships.
What does “to inform” mean in Human Design?
“To inform” is the Manifestor strategy in Human Design.
Simply put “to inform” means telling someone of a decision that will affect them before you take action.
Here’s the three-step process for Manifestors:
You make a decision to do something.
You communicate that decision to whomever will be impacted by it.
You do the thing (initiate action).
Informing is not broadcasting your decision to people who don’t need to know nor is it asking for permission to do the thing
What is an example of the Manifestor strategy “to inform”?
Let’s say a Manifestor decides to move. She lives alone so she doesn’t think that her actions (the move) will affect anyone.
Note: Manifestors aren’t naturally inclined to think about how their future decisions impact others.
Then she pauses and writes down all the people who could possibly be affected by her solo move. This pause allows her to remember that she sometimes feeds her elderly neighbor’s cats, and that he’ll need to find someone else to do that once she moves.
Informing would look like the Manifestor texting or slipping a note under her neighbor’s door telling him that she’s moving.
Informing is a courtesy that Manifestors extend to others to prevent future resistance and annoying reactions that could slow them down or get in their way, like, the un-informed neighbor blowing up her phone when he sees the Manifestor out the window busy loading boxes onto a U-Haul.
Informing clears the way for Manifestors to forge on ahead with less resistance from others.
Is it necessary for Manifestors “to inform”?
Until you understand how impactful your energy is as a Manifestor, informing may not make sense to you. Like, Why would someone care what I’m doing? Why do I have to tell them? Informing feels like a nuisance.
As a Manifestor your actions impact others, even when you don’t think they do, because your energy is so powerful.
Manifestors only make up around 8–10% of the population. The reason there are so few Manifestors is that they are here to make an impact and be leaders.
Again, you have “one job” as a Manifestor and that is to initiate. What you initiate is up to you. You are designed to receive urges—internal inspirations, impulses, and ideas—that drive you into action.
This could be starting a business, launching a movement, or calling your middle-school crush out of the blue.
Manifestors also have initiatory energy, which means just their presence alone can be a catalyst for someone, like initiating them onto a new path in life or into new way of thinking. Again, the Manifestor energy is powerfully felt by others, and so are your actions.
Here’s another example of what it looks like “to inform”:
Let’s say as a Manifestor you get a strong urge to quit your job. Without anyone’s input, you decide that’s the right action to take. “To inform” would mean preparing your coworkers and boss by giving two weeks notice.
Walking out of your job the day you get the urge to quit would not be informing because it would throw everything into chaos. It would unnecessarily hurt the feelings of the coworker you have lunch with every day, like, Why didn’t you tell me!? It could make your boss angry because she hasn’t been given time to look for your replacement.
Informing is preparing or giving people the heads-up of an action you’ve already decided to take.
Giving two weeks notice will help those that will be affected by your quitting be more receptive and even support you. For example:
your boss could be a future reference for you because she didn’t feel disrespected when you left her in the lurch (by not informing).
your co-worker could follow you to your new venture and be your first employee because she admires and trusts you
Informing helps you gain people’s trust and respect, and reduces resistance to whatever bold move you’re making.
A lot of your power as a Manifestor is around communication. Your strategy to inform is about strengthening your power, not weakening you.
Tips on informing as a Manifestor
You want to inform AFTER you’ve made a decision but BEFORE acting on it.
You don’t want to inform while you’re in the process of making a decision because you’re not designed for much input or advice.
You also need to inform when you’ve decided not to do something any longer.
What is Manifestors’ not-self theme?
When Manifestors don’t follow their strategy “to inform” they can experience anger, which is called their “not-self theme.” Anger can result from Manifestors feeling disempowered or controlled.
Additional not-self behaviors Manifestors should look out for:
being passive
people-pleasing
being passive aggressive
being aggressive or overly rebellious
It’s better for Manifestors to directly communicate what they’re doing than to engage in these behaviors to try to get what they want.
How does the strategy “to inform” help Manifestors manifest?
When a Manifestor informs, it puts people at ease. Because of subconscious energy dynamics, people don’t naturally feel at ease in the presence of a Manifestor. When a Manifestor loops their people in on what they’re doing, it often is met with appreciation for letting them in. They will be more willing to step out of the way for the Manifestor to do their thing or support them.
“Informing paves the way for manifesting” - Ra Uru Hu
As a Manifestor, when people react badly when you inform, see it as showing you who is not for you and let them fall by the wayside. When you’re making bold moves as a Manifestor, there will be people who don’t like what you’re doing or will try to stop you.
Because Manifestors don’t like to be controlled, they often skip their strategy to inform. However, informing is not asking for permission. It’s just telling someone, “I’m doing this” before you do it.
A big life lesson for Manifestors is not taking other people’s reactions to them personally and understanding not everyone is for you. But those who are for you, will often follow you anywhere.
What is the relationship between the Manifestor aura and strategy?
As a Manifestor, you’re not meant to take in a lot of input from others because of how your aura is designed. Your aura in Human Design is your energy that interacts with others and can be felt at a subconscious level.
Each type in Human Design has a different aura and Manifestors’ aura is called closed and repelling. This means your energy is often misinterpreted by others: they may feel defensive around you, uneasy, or contract and not know why.
Informing is a tool to put people at ease or as Ra Uru Hu says, “breaks through this charged auric interaction.”
This is also why Manifestors are encouraged to make the first move (to initiate) because people aren’t naturally inclined to approach Manifestors.
As a Manifestor, your energy is exclusive like a popular nightclub people are lined up outside. You might be surprised by how much people want to get in or jump on your bandwagon once you inform them of what you’re doing or invite them into your life.
You’re not as alone as you think.
Manifestors need people because the Manifestor type is good at starting things but not so much at sustaining them. Informing allows those who are for you to support you so you can manifest your vision to its fullest expression.
Informing do’s and don’ts
Here’s what informing is not (don’ts):
telling someone what you think about them
telling them what to do
telling them what’s wrong with them or criticizing them
Your authority (your decision-making process in Human Design) will always show you your inner truth as a Manifestor so rely on that to guide you towards right action.
I do see it helpful for Manifestors to inform others of their needs, such as saying (do’s):
I appreciate your insight but I’m not looking for advice.
One thing you should know about me is that I get annoyed if I’m pestered with questions.
I need a lot of alone time. It’s not personal, it’s how I recharge.
I’ll let you know what I’m going to do when I’m ready.
Lastly, informing works both ways. If you have a Manifestor in your life, it can be helpful to inform them of your decisions and keep them in the loop. This shows them the respect and freedom they need to thrive.
☼
The reward for Manifestors following their strategy “to inform” is peace.
If you’re a Manifestor, it can feel like the only way to achieve peace is by being a lone wolf. Informing is about learning how to communicate with others so that they can support your bold actions. You can have both: harmonious relationships and the freedom to do your thing.
